Concept Phones in 2015

Nokia Lumia 2020

Apparently Nokia had a special concept competition, that was meant to award designers with a phone after imagining the Nokia of the year 2020. Thomas Chanal made a concept for the competition and won the contest and the Nokia phone. Congratulations to him!

Nokia 2020 is worlds slimest phone that can easily fit into your wallet . I am just going to call this the Nokia Lumia 2020 and I hope the designer is OK with that. This very original render relies on a very minimalistic design, that involves a very small handset body that can expand. I can see we get 6G connectivity and what seems to be a transparent and flexible screen. There are no physical buttons and this model is able to connect with anything, from game consoles to desktops and your car.

If I read it well, at the back there’s a 20 megapixel dual pixel CMOS sensor with a Digic 5+ image processor. There’s also a silent shutter mode, 7 FPS continuous shooting and RAW support. The Nokia Lumia concept shown here is available in a variety of colors and comes with a very original OS that doesn’t have a name.

It’s basically a blend of Meego and Tizen, if you ask me, with some elements from BlackBerry OS 10. This is certainly not Android and nor is it Windows Phone.

This Nokia Lumia concept packs a 32 megapixel camera with Carl Zeiss lens, a rotating screen and supports a 1024 x 768 pixel resolution (16:9). Other specs include 64 GB of storage, data and charging connections via NFC and 4G LTE connectivity. There’s Pureview camera tech in the mix, FM radio, WiFi, Bluetooth and Windows Phone 8.

The phone measures 10 mm in thickness closed and 5 mm open, apparently. David Quijada claims he misses the old phones with their clamshell format and beauty. Well, here we are with a blast from the past. So, would you buy a dual display Nokia with rotating screen and hot camera?

Nexus 6 and Nexus 9 weren’t exactly hits if you look at the reviews and the general public opinion, although Android Lollipop is an excellent platform. I guess we could blame Motorola and HTC for not delivering here, but let’s focus on the future and what’s next… maybe a Nexus 5 2015?

That’s exactly what designers Derek Kruk and Jack McNenny are proposing in thconceptpt shown here. We’re dealing with a 5.1 inch Quad HD AMOLED display handset, with a Snapdragon 810 processor and 3 GB of RAM on board. There are dual front speakers included, a 20 megapixel back camera and a 5 MP front shooter. Inside we get a 3000 mAh battery and the design feels familiar, while at the same time it brings novelty.

The facade is very much like the Nexus 6, while the back is pretty unique, especially with those colourful customizations. From what I see here, metal meets polycarbonate and the result is not exactly slim, but rather in the range of 8 mm or so. This handset seems to opt for a sturdy metal frame and it includes a camera with a ring around it, if I’m not mistaking. What do you think of the Nexus 5 2015? And who’s going to make it ?
